From “hippies in the woods” to a pre-SolarCity IPO, Real Goods Solar was a pioneer in the U.S. industry. It quietly filed for bankruptcy in January.
There have been several rounds of solar panel manufacturers and install companies that have gone bankrupt over the year, closed doors, changed names, or were bought out, often leaving customers confused and feeling uncertain. Sungevity, Suniva, Solar World, and more have all filed of bankruptcy protection. The ups and downs of the solar industry are wide spread. Even local solar companies have been affected. Industry analysts predict there will be another round of closures in the wake of the coronavirus storm of 2020.
